Xyzal: A Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride antihistamine for symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis and Urticaria

Xyzal is an antihistaminic medication. It is used to treat various allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis or hay fever, conjunctivitis, some skin reactions such as eczema, Urticaria or hives, and reactions to bites and stings. It also relieves watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, and itching.

Xyzal 5 mg Tablet can be taken with or without food. The dose required may vary depending on what indication it is taken for. This medicine is usually taken in the evening. It should be taken on days when there are symptoms, but if it is taken to prevent the symptoms, then it should be taken regularly. If a dose is missed or stopped earlier than advised, the symptoms may come back.

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as the body adjusts to the medicine. If symptoms persist or bother, patients should consult their doctor

Warnings

Pregnancy

SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Xyzal Tablet is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects on the developing baby. However, there are limited human studies.

Breastfeeding

SAFE IF PRESCRIBED

Xyzal Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggest that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.

Larger doses or prolonged use of Xyzal Tablet may cause drowsiness and other effects on the baby or a decrease in the milk supply.

Driving

UNSAFE

Xyzal Tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision, or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.

Kidney and liver disease

Xyzal Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Xyzal Tablet may be needed. It is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease. Xyzal Tablet is safe to use in patients with liver disease. No dose adjustment of Xyzal Tablet is recommended.

Xyzal Syrup

Xyzal Syrup should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease.

Dose adjustment of Xyzal Syrup may be needed.

Xyzal Syrup is safe to use in patients with liver disease. No dose adjustment of Xyzal Syrup is recommended. However, dose adjustments may be required in severe liver disease.
